Rocktopia: The Wheel - 'The Wheel' - CD Review

A Rocktopia / fireworks Magazine album review by Ant Heeks: First thoughts on receiving this CD was that The Wheel was a pretty unimaginative name for a Rock band, but I've come to realise that it's actually quite fitting. They're certainly not re-inventing the wheel, but maybe re-defining it by tapping into what started it rolling and exploring everywhere it has travelled since. Let me explain; The Wheel have a swaggering Blues-rock sound that takes its roots from the classic bands of the 70's such as Led Zeppelin, Free and Whitesnake, while giving respectful nods towards those who continued to keep the flame burning in the 80's and 90's, such as Badlands, Cry Of Love, Manic Eden, Mr. Big and Thunder, and also embracing the influence of bands like Soundgarden and Pearl Jam who succeeded in taking the sound in different directions, then bringing the whole concept bang up to date with a dynamic, modern-sounding production.
