Rising up from the ashes of Deep Purple, David Coverdale issued two solo albums before putting together the band, who would go on to build a loyal fan base for their brand of blues rock, before smashing their way into the American market and achieving superstardom in 1987. After 1990's 'Slip Of the Tongue' it looked like the writing was on the wall for Whitesnake - things were put on ice while Coverdale worked with Jimmy Page.
