Composer Mattis Sørum describes the music of his Pictorial Wand as ‘conceptual with a strong melodic focus and massive arrangements’ and that, I think, pretty much gives the potential purchaser a heads up as to what ‘Face Of Our Fathers’ is all about. We are very much in the territory of progressive melodic rock rather than its metal equivalent – occasionally it is quite gentle acoustic stuff, but this contrasts with incredible symphonic passages that are really demanding of the listener’s attention.
